This miniature straight-bladed sword pendant is decorated with impressive details. The blade itself is inscribed with runic symbols that read vertically from top to bottom and grouped asymmetrically from left to right. The symbols are all darkened with an antique effect to make them stand out against the flat polished blade.
The sword's handle is molded with a decorative spiral pattern for gripping and a small sculpted sharp-beaked eagle's head juts out to either side to protect the warrior's hand. The triangular pommel at the top is also marked with a symbol that is also antique-darkened.
The sword is often used as a symbol of bravery, courage, determination and strength.
Runes, or Runic symbol, were used in pre-Christian Northern Europe not just for more practical day-to-day communication but also for rituals that called on the higher powers to ask for help and guidance. Each symbol in itself represented something, such as Strength, Success, Fertility, Marriage, etc.
