Antique Victorian diamond ring, featuring a 0.45ct old cut diamond set into a 18ct yellow gold. This single old cut diamond is set in a claw setting.
An old min cut diamond were measured by eye and cut by hand, they were the most common diamond cut in the early 18th and late 19th century. An old mine cut diamond can be recognised by its squashed shape, it has 58 facets similar to today's brilliant cut diamonds although it is a different shape and proportions. Old cut diamonds have a smaller table, larger culet and a higher crown.
